The new SGrid extruder in depth.

Abstract

Over the last year, tremendous efforts have been put into making a new stratigraphic grid extruder, based on the prototype presented last year. The main goal of this new extruder is to have a fast and robust algorithm, which, in addition to producing high quality grids, should also be able to handle at least some imperfections in the input data. As will also be presented in this meeting, great efforts were made to improve the input of this algorithm as well (parametrized surface). The new algorithm described here handles both the generation of smooth and stair-stepped faults. It is also based on a 2D topological kernel designed to be reusable for other purposes such as the GSURF object. The third dimension handling has also been improved, with a wider choice of methods for specifying the geometry and better handling of layering style.
