Abstract

Stratigraphical surfaces are usually discretized in the groups of connected triangles, used for grid building, and could be used for object-based modeling of clastic facies. For that purpose, it is necessary to adapt the geometry of individual objects to the curvilinear coordinate system of the triangulated surface. In this paper we suggest an improvement of a Geometrical Shape (GShape), which has constant number of nodes per cross-section and straight lines between nodes of the neighboring sections. Even with such a parametrization it is possible to create complex objects well suited to reproduce the geometry of sedimentary bodies. In order to fit them to triangulated surfaces the number of nodes per section should vary, and straight lines between nodes should be fragmented. Using geometrical transformation of a Triangulated Shape (TShape), it is possible to constrain the envelope of the deposits by the stratigraphical surface with the given vector of volumetrical restoration (e.g. z-axis, w-axis, geochronological time of deposition, etc.).
