Assessing geological scenarios with the modeling of heat transfers and uid ows in the geothermal reservoir of Basse-Terre, Guadeloupe

Abstract

Understanding the physical processes occurring in a geothermal reservoir is a key point to make decisions about resource exploitation developments. In the frame of the GEOTREF project in Basse-Terre, Guadeloupe, data have been acquired and interpreted by geologists and geophysicists. A potential area of interest for geothermal exploitation has been targeted. However, uncertainties in data and interpretations make it difficult to draw a precise sketch of the geological heterogeneities. Moreover, the impact of geological heterogeneities on heat transfer and repartition of geothermal resources is not trivial. We develop a methodology based on progressive complexification of the geological scenario to evaluate the level of detail needed to generate a predictive numerical model according to observed geothermal evidences (geothermal sources and well temperature profiles). The main idea is to fix physical simulation parameters while downscaling the geological model. This is a preliminary work to establish a proof of concept on a 2D cross-section going through the area of interest.
