Thanks to the funds received from IAMG this year, we had the opportunity to plan a 3-day field trip in the Aix-en-Provence (South France) region, with the aim of establishing a connection between geological features exposed in natural environments and the numerical modeling of the petrophysical properties of these objects, as well as the mathematical methods to describe them or to simulate transfer processes such as fluid flow.

The IAMG Student Chapter of Nancy was happy to invite all the students and young participants from IAMG 2022 in Nancy for a festive event. The idea was to bring the students together for bowling (drinks and food included) after a full day of interesting lectures.

At the end, about 40 participants went to the bowling alley to participate in this knocking over pins. The opportunity to get together over a drink and a friendly game and to get to know each other. And for some people, to show their great skill when it comes to making strikes... !

We particularly thank Zoé Renat and Capucine Legentil for the organization of this event through the student chapter.

The 21st Annual Conference of the IAMG (August 29 - September 3) was a major event in Mathematical Geosciences that succeed to gather international participants from academia, industry and government organizations. The event was hosted at the Centre Prouvé in the city of Nancy, France.

A perfect opportunity for student chapter members to show themselves and present their work in front of an assembly made up of international researchers...

IAMG2022 RING pres

We were delighted to welcome this productive, vibrant and enjoyable IAMG 2022 Conference, and we look forward to welcoming you to Nancy again!

This Tuesday afternoon Philippe Renard, Professor at University of Neuchâtel (Switzerland) and IAMG Distinguished Lecturer, performed a seminar entitled "Geological realism and groundwater modeling: why, how, and does it pay off?".

His seminar took place at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Géologie (ENSG) of Nancy. The occasion for Pr. Renard to advise students from his former school and scientists with a key message : "do not blindly trust experts, but common sense and rigorous logic".

We thank you and we're pleased to welcome you again.

On the beginning of July (08th to 11th), 7 members of the Student Chapter went on a field trip in Val de Travers, Switzerland, together with four permanent researchers of the RING team to discover the geology of the area. This was the occasion to meet our colleagues in a different context (team building), to discover real geological objects as the team’s main focus is on their numerical representation (for example, through karsts exploration), and to create an emulation environment for scientific discussions.

The Student Chapter and the RING team would like to thank the UniNE (University of Neuchâtel) most sincerely for their participation in this memorable field trip and in its well oiled organization.

This Friday afternoon, the student chapter board welcomed the new MSc students from the numerical geology department of the Nancy School of Geology. The occasion for Corentin Gouache, the president, to introduce the IAMG and our local student chapter.

The MSc students will stay with us until the beginning of May, before flying away for their final year internships. Hoping to recruit new members !
